Breakthrough Initiatives

2005-2009
The Chamber identified 10 major breakthrough opportunities in 2005 requiring continuity of leadership, a multiyear effort and a promise for significant economic growth and improved quality of life. These Breakthrough Initiatives, together with new and continuing programs in Economic, Community and Organization Development, comprise the five-year plan. The Chamber encourages your support and participation in the important work required to advance this agenda.
Program of Action

Design and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for sustainable economic growth.			Establish and manage the Waco We Do brand with a marketing and public relations strategy for tourism and economic development.
Realize a billion dollar decade of development downtown.			Enhance the I-35 corridor economically and aesthetically, emphasizing the Greater Waco gateways.
Build support for the principles of sustainable growth and advocate development downtown and along the river.			Influence the location of the TransTexas Corridor and locate a stop on the high-speed passenger rail line in downtown.
Grow the university center into a state university.			Leverage the resources of the region’s colleges and universities to attract a younger, more-qualified and better-educated workforce.
Win recognition as a green, livable city.			Develop and market health care and wellness resources
